Services
An eye examination is much more than just making sure you have the right prescription and can see. It encompasses a thorough evaluation of the health of your eyes and often your general health too. An eye examination can take 45-90 minutes to complete.
During the sight test we will:
- Ask you about any issues with your vision or eyes that are new, your general health, your medications, any history of conditions or treatments on your eyes, relatives who have a history of eye problems and your work and/or your hobbies. As with all conversations related to health, the more detail you can provide the more it will help the optician.
- Assess your distance (for TV and driving) and near vision (for reading and close work)
- Check the outside of your eye and eye structures including your eye movements.
- Check if the inside of your eye is healthy by examining the inside of your eyes. We have a portable fundus camera which takes a photo of the back of your eye. This can be useful to show you when explaining the health of your eyes and for reference at future eye examinations. We will always check specifically for: cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and any changes to blood vessels.
- There may be other tests required depending on what we have found throughout the examination.
- We can then discuss if you would benefit from new glasses or contact lenses. There is no obligation and no pressure to purchase spectacles from us.
We would be happy to come out to the house and show you our frames if you have a prescription from us or elsewhere. Even if you are not due an eye test but you would like to purchase new glasses, we can come to you to make things a little easier for you.
We have a wide selection of spectacle frames that will appeal to all kinds of preferences. From classic to contemporary styles, there is something for everyone. We have various designer ranges including Radley, SuperDry and Barbour and we also offer fully customisable rimless frames.
We can supply and can accept NHS vouchers for your spectacles or contact lenses.
Single vision, bifocal, varifocal and ‘occupational’ lenses are available. A complete pair of single vision glasses range from £100 to £200 (unless you are entitled to help towards the cost of your glasses from the NHS). Additional products like multifocal lenses, tints, photochromatic or thin and light lenses will incur additional charges which can be discussed. All of our lenses come with hard coating and antireflection coatings included. If you are unsure which lens is suitable for your prescription we are on hand to offer advice. Delivery and fitting of glasses is included in the cost as well as any and all aftercare required.
We can advise you on, teach you how to use and fit you with contact lenses. We have access to products across the industry and each product has a variety of benefits. Each patient is different and their needs vary. We will endeavour to match our patients needs to the most appropriate lens for them available. We will assist you through the process from the beginning and onwards.
