FAQs

There are many different options available which we will discuss with you at your appointment. You can choose the option that best suits your needs. Most lenses are made of lightweight plastic. We supply a wide range to suit your prescription as well as your lifestyle.

All of our lenses as standard have a hard coat/scratch-resistant coating as well as an anti-reflective coating applied free of charge. This will protect the lenses from scratches and make the lenses look better, allow 5% more light through the lens and cut down on extra reflections from the lenses you might see.

Single-vision lenses are the simplest form of lens. Concave lenses are used to correct short sight and convex lenses correct long sight. These can be used for far vision, near vision, computer/intermediate vision, or for a specific task like very near vision for reading knitting patterns/sewing/fine craft work.

As we get older we may find it more difficult to focus on near objects. This is called presbyopia and reading glasses normally help with this. However, far away objects e.g. the television will be blurry with reading glasses. Bifocal lenses will give you clear distance and near vision in one pair of glasses. The top of the lens corrects your distance vision and the bottom segment corrects near vision with a distinct dividing line between the two parts.

Similar to bifocals, varifocal lenses are used to correct presbyopia. However, varifocal lenses have no visible dividing lines between the different sections of the lens. The power of the lens changes smoothly from your distance to your near prescription, allowing you to see clearly at all distances.

We carry an extensive selection of frames for you to choose from. These can be fitted with the lenses you need and delivered to your door and fitted by us.

All of our frames can be adapted to become sunglasses and we will happily advise you on the options available.
